NZ Rockshop Gear is a quarterly publication specifically dedicated to musical instruments. Gear covers the range of products available through NZ Rockshops; including guitars, basses, drums & percussion, keyboards, recording gear, DJ gear, live sound, lighting, print music and more. I was in charge of designing the entire 56 page publication using information provided by product managers.

THE ICONS

This issue of Rockshop Gear focused on the musical instrument 'icons'. The instruments that started musical revolutions and defined the way music sounds.

Stories sell, and this issue was a good way to tell the stories of the pioneers, inventors and innovators behind some of the brands NZ Rockshop offer. It also created an opportunity to tell the less known story of NZ Rockshop and how NZ's top musical instrument retail company came to be.

This was an issue I was especially proud of. With the layouts inspired by vintage instrument magazines from the 60s and 70s, it feels like taking a step back in time to discover the origins of the instruments musicians still love playing today. The instruments featured were assembled for an impressive stage shot for the issues centerfold. This was shot on-location at Backbeat, where some of these iconic and historical instruments are kept.
